The cooling effect is real — it stays cool even when she's been lying on it for a while, which surprised me. Machine washed it once on gentle and it came out fine, no bunching or fading. Docking one star because the edges curl up slightly on hard floors, so I've been putting it on top of her regular bed instead, which works fine. Would buy again — just size up if you're on the fence, and maybe plan to layer it over something to keep it flat.
